SAFFRON Phase III at #ESMO26!
Prof. Lu presents the results of osimertinib + savolitinib vs platinum–pemetrexed in pts with EGFR-mutant NSCLC with MET overexpression and/or amplification after osimertinib progression.
Primary endpoint – PFS:
7.6 vs 5.4 months
HR 0.55 (95% CI 0.42–0.72), p<0.001
Secondary endpoint – OS:
17.8 vs 12.9 months
HR 0.68 (95% CI 0.50–0.91), p=0.010
Important detail: MET overexpression was defined as IHC 3+ in ≥90% of tumour cells, a particularly stringent threshold! MET amplification was defined as FISH10+.
Personal take: A compelling PFS benefit accompanied by OS data is clearly enough. Patient selection is critical: solid not done yet, let’s get back a key message for our pathologist: test it test it test for MET amp and or over-expressed by IHC!!!
