ESMO 2026: Early CAR-T and Bispecific Data in Liver Cancer, LEAP-012 Falls Short
Start here
At ESMO 2026, three studies in advanced hepatocellular carcinoma delivered mixed results. Phase I updates for C-CAR031 and BGB-B2033 showed preliminary antitumor activity: C-CAR031 achieved an objective response rate of 44% and disease control rate of 92% in 36 patients, though tumor lysis syndrome-related deaths and interstitial lung disease were reported. BGB-B2033 showed confirmed objective response rates ranging from 16.0% to 35.7% across dose groups in 110 patients, with 450 mg selected as the recommended phase II dose. In contrast, the long-term analysis of LEAP-012 showed no overall survival benefit. Both early-phase programs now move forward with larger trials to confirm safety and efficacy.
