Start here
The MASTERPLAN trial, an open-label phase 2 multicentre randomised study run by the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group, tested whether adding stereotactic body radiotherapy to perioperative chemotherapy improves outcomes for patients with high-risk, localised pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma. Results, published in The Lancet Oncology, show that the combined approach significantly reduced locoregional recurrence compared with perioperative chemotherapy alone, and did so without a significant increase in toxicity. The authors regard the strategy as worth pursuing in larger studies. The trial was phase 2, so the magnitude of benefit and the role of SBRT in standard perioperative care remain open questions awaiting confirmation in bigger datasets.

The open-label, phase 2, multicentre MASTERPLAN randomised trial by the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG) showed that perioperative chemotherapy plus SBRT significantly reduced locoregional recurrence in high-risk, localised PDAC. Compared with perioperative chemotherapy alone, adding SBRT did not significantly increase toxicity; the authors say the strategy warrants investigation in larger studies.
