UCSF Team Maps eIF4E mRNA Cap-Binding Pocket With Benzoxaborole Probes
Start here
Researchers at UCSF have used benzoxaborole photoaffinity probes to identify eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E (eIF4E) in live cells, mapping its binding site to the mRNA cap-binding pocket. The work, published in JACS, provides a chemically precise picture of where this translation initiation factor engages mRNA in its native cellular context. eIF4E is a long-standing point of interest in translation control and cancer biology, and a defined ligand-contact map of the cap-binding pocket may support structure-guided efforts to design small molecules that act on this site. The study establishes the probe approach itself as a way to localize protein-ligand interactions in living cells.
