Genetic and environmental factors associated with DNA methylation across childhood and adolescence in individuals with and without attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
Genetic and environmental factors associated with DNA methylation across childhood and adolescence in individuals with and without attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder
In brief
In a longitudinal cohort of children aged 9.5-11.9 years, 19 meQTLs explained up to 40% of DNA methylation variance at 5 ADHD-linked CpG sites, and LASSO regression in 126 children identified 17 environmental predictors. Household income and school quality of life were associated with declining methylation at specific CpG sites over time, with income showing a protective effect in the remitted ADHD group and the opposite in the persistent group.
