STAT+: Roivant says closely watched immune drug succeeded in new eye disease

In brief

Roivant and its spinout Priovant said Wednesday that their oral immune-modulating drug Lisraya was more effective than placebo in treating non-infectious uveitis. Two Phase 3 trials enrolled 371 patients; the company estimates 70,000 to 190,000 U.S. patients have the condition, with over 40,000 already receiving Humira or a similar therapy. Roivant plans to file for approval in the first half of next year; the drug was approved in August for dermatomyositis.

Why it matters

Two placebo-controlled Phase 3 trials enrolling 371 patients provide direct evidence of Lisraya's relative efficacy in this indication.
