Testosterone therapy may increase risk of cardiovascular disease in postmenopausal women
In brief
A Drexel University team used data from the TriNetX US Collaborative Network to conduct a retrospective cohort study of more than 6,300 propensity-score-matched postmenopausal women, finding that testosterone therapy was associated with a significantly higher risk of composite cardiovascular disease (hazard ratio 8.08, 95% CI 4.72-13.82), with absolute event rates of 3.8% versus 0.5%.
Why it matters
A retrospective propensity-matched cohort linked testosterone therapy to a cardiovascular event hazard ratio of 8.08, providing real-world safety evidence for postmenopausal women.
