[Articles] Endometrial ablation plus levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system versus endometrial ablation alone in women with heavy menstrual bleeding in The Netherlands (MIRA2): a multicentre, open-label, randomised, controlled, superiority trial
In brief
MIRA2, a multicentre, open-label, randomised controlled superiority trial conducted in The Netherlands, showed that endometrial ablation combined with a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system reduced the incidence of hysterectomy in women with heavy menstrual bleeding compared with endometrial ablation alone. The combined treatment appears to be a safe adjunctive strategy that does not increase the risk of complications.
Why it matters
The MIRA2 randomised controlled trial compared ablation with and without a levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system and found lower hysterectomy incidence without added complications.
