Most new drugs are still too costly at launch, ICER says

In brief

An ICER report published October 20, 2026, finds that about two-thirds of 26 new drugs approved from 2022 to 2025 had net prices exceeding the institute's cost-effectiveness thresholds. The inflation-adjusted median net price rose from $190,000 to $257,000, and nearly a quarter of drugs assessed in 2025 had net prices above $500,000.

Why it matters

ICER compares net prices of drugs approved 2022–2025 with its cost-effectiveness thresholds and gives drug-specific discount levels as a reference for pricing debates.
