Genome-wide analyses identify 60 loci associated with liver triglyceride content
In brief
A genome-wide association analysis of 71,488 UK Biobank participants identified 60 independent loci associated with liver triglyceride content. Polygenic scores built from these loci were associated with elevated risk of cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. The study was published in Nature Genetics, doi:10.1038/s41588-026-02794-6.
Why it matters
Provides genome-wide association results for liver triglycerides in over 70,000 people and 60 loci, with polygenic score links to cirrhosis and liver cancer risk.
