Science paper shows human gene BC200 can transpose and twice inserted into a poxvirus
In brief
A Cornell University team reports in Science that the human gene BC200 has retained the ability to move and twice inserted itself into the molluscum contagiosum virus (MCV) genome. BC200 is expressed mainly in neurons, and evidence suggests it may regulate messenger RNA translation; its abnormal expression in some tumors and in the brains of Alzheimer's patients remains a focus for future research.
