Novel blood test detects lung cancer traces long before scans
In brief
A study published in The Journal of Molecular Diagnostics shows that whole-genome sequencing (WGS) liquid biopsy can detect circulating tumor DNA in blood from early-stage non-small-cell lung cancer months before imaging, to predict postoperative recurrence.
Why it matters
The study shows how ctDNA identifies early NSCLC recurrence before imaging, comparable to stage I recurrence rates of 5% to 19% with standard imaging follow-up.
