Xiamen University Team Identifies Cuproptosis Effector Protein in Cell, Acetylation Boosts Copper Binding
Start here
A Xiamen University team publishing in Cell identified an effector protein of cuproptosis and found that acetylation enhances the protein's binding of copper ions. Cuproptosis, named in 2022, is a form of programmed cell death distinct from apoptosis, pyroptosis and ferroptosis; excess copper targets lipoylated mitochondrial proteins, triggering protein aggregation and degradation of iron-sulfur cluster proteins.
