fastGxE method enables biobank-scale detection of gene-environment interactions
Start here
Researchers led by Chao Ning have published fastGxE in Nature Genetics, a computational method for analyzing genome-wide gene-environment interactions across multiple environments at biobank scale. Detecting how genetic variants interact with environmental exposures has been computationally difficult in large biobanks, particularly when analyzing multiple environments simultaneously; fastGxE is designed to address that bottleneck. The method was published on October 22, 2026, and is now available to the research community. Its application to specific biobank datasets, comparison with existing approaches, and uptake by other groups remain to be established.
