PsychAD Publishes Largest Single-Cell Atlas of the Diseased Human Brain
Start here
The PsychAD project has released the largest single-cell atlas of human brain disease to date, published on September 23, 2026 in Nature and related journals. The atlas profiles more than 6.3 million nuclei from 1494 deceased donors, with all samples taken from the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. The resource is expected to support research into the cellular basis of psychiatric and neurodegenerative conditions by giving scientists a large-scale reference of cell types and states in diseased brain tissue. How the community will build on the dataset across additional brain regions and diseases is the open question.
