Phase IV trial in China supports co-administering coronavirus, pneumococcal and flu vaccines
Start here
A randomized, open-label, multicenter, controlled, non-inferiority Phase IV trial in China evaluated a multi-vaccine respiratory immunization strategy in adults, combining the inactivated coronavirus vaccine WIBP-CorV with the pneumococcal vaccine PPV23 and the quadrivalent inactivated influenza vaccine IIV4. Vaccines were given sequentially on Day 0 and Day 28. The trial showed that this co-administration preserved humoral immune responses against all three respiratory pathogens, meeting its non-inferiority goal. The results support a combined vaccination approach to protect adults against SARS-CoV-2, pneumococcal bacteria and influenza in a single strategy. Longer-term follow-up data, results in specific age subgroups and any regulatory or policy steps toward adopting such a combined schedule in routine adult immunization have not been reported.
