Gene-poor, repeat-rich Y chromosomes in two Neotropical malaria vectors, Anopheles cruzii and Anopheles aquasalis

In brief

Researchers used the Y chromosome Genome Scan (YGS) and chromosome quotient (CQ) methods to identify Y-linked sequences in two Neotropical malaria vector mosquitoes, Anopheles cruzii and Anopheles aquasalis.

Why it matters

The study extends the repeat-rich, gene-poor pattern of anopheline Y chromosomes to two Neotropical lineages and provides candidate male-specific markers.
