Mitochondrial carbonic anhydrase-VB inhibition rescues brain endothelial stress and memory in Alzheimer's disease models.
In brief
Inhibiting mitochondrial carbonic anhydrase CA-VB prevents Aβ-induced mitochondria-mediated endothelial apoptosis, loss of barrier resistance, and inflammatory activation in hCMEC cells and 3xTg Alzheimer's disease mice. CA-V inhibition also reduces caspase activation and endothelial activation in the brains of 3xTg mice and preserves memory, pointing to this target as a potential intervention against AD cerebrovascular pathology and cognitive impairment.
