Radiation-Induced Collagen I&III Accumulation Drives Immunosuppressive Evolution in Recurrent Glioblastoma

In brief

In samples from patients with recurrent glioblastoma and in mouse models of repeated irradiation, the study found upregulated COL I&III expression, with high expression associated with shorter survival. Spatial transcriptomics showed that COL I&III-enriched regions were accompanied by TGF-β signaling and immunosuppressive cell signatures.

Why it matters

Links Collagen I&III accumulation in recurrent glioblastoma to TGF-β signaling and immunosuppression, and suggests synergy between buparlisib and PD-1 blockade in a mouse recurrence model.
