#AACR26 We presented our Double Lung Transplant for Cancer updates from @NorthwesternMed.
1️⃣ DLT for Advanced, Lung-Limited NSCLC (DREAM study)
• 19 patients with advanced bilateral lung-limited non-small cell lung cancer.
• The Finding: DLT is feasible with acceptable perioperative safety, providing meaningful gains in both respiratory function and quality of life for carefully selected patients.
2️⃣ DLT in Patients with Recent Cancer History (CT257)
• The Study: 21 patients with a recent history (less than 5 yrs) of various malignancies.
• The Finding: The procedure was feasible and showed no excess early mortality attributable to prior cancer history, challenging the idea that a recent cancer diagnosis should automatically exclude patients from transplant.
The Big Picture: Both studies suggest that for specific, high-risk populations previously considered ineligible, double lung transplantation could be a life-changing and viable therapeutic strategy. 🏥📈
