FDA Approves Hibsago (Bepirovirsen), Raising Hope for Functional Cure of Hepatitis B

The US FDA today approved the antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) drug Hibsago (bepirovirsen) for the treatment of hepatitis B. Bepirovirsen promotes degradation of HBV RNA and reduces production of viral proteins, and may also act by activating the host innate immune response, offering hope for a functional cure of hepatitis B.
