AI facial health recognition tools help physicians assess age and survival risk to guide personalized treatment

In brief

Mass General Brigham researchers built the FAHR-Face foundation model, trained on more than 40 million facial images, and derived two tools from it: FAHR-FaceAge to estimate biological age and FAHR-FaceSurvival to predict cancer survival. The study was published in Lancet Digital Health (DOI: 10.1016/j.landig.2026.101056).

Why it matters

Presents the first AI foundation model to predict cancer survival directly from face photos, showing complementary predictive value of biological age and survival risk.
