Guangzhou Laboratory Finds SOX2 Condensates Drive Chemo Resistance in Lung Squamous Cancer, Designs Peptide Hx1R8
In brief
Hongjie Yao's group at Guangzhou National Laboratory reports in Signal Transduction and Targeted Therapy that a prion-like domain (PrLD) in SOX2 drives liquid-liquid phase separation to form condensates. These condensates directly bind and sequester chemotherapy drugs and weaken the DNA damage response, producing broad chemotherapeutic resistance in lung squamous cell carcinoma (LSCC).
Why it matters
The paper pairs mechanistic evidence of SOX2 condensates sequestering chemotherapy drugs with in vivo tumor-suppression data for Hx1R8 plus cisplatin.
