Drug prices climb past $250K as US patients balk at the pharmacy
In brief
A report from ICER and West Health finds the median net launch price of new drugs in the US rose 35%, from $190,000 in 2022 to $257,000 in 2025. Covering about 50 new drugs, the report shows roughly one quarter had annual net prices above $500,000, and another 34% fell between $200,000 and $500,000. Only one third of patients filled their prescriptions within 30 days; ICER says lack of insurance coverage soon after approval was a key reason many prescriptions went unfilled.
Why it matters
The report pairs net launch prices with 30-day fill rates, showing how high prices and gaps in insurance coverage affect patient access.
