Targeting lung cancer's cellular shipping system could offer a new way to slow tumor growth
In brief
A UTHealth Houston team reports in PNAS that non-small cell lung cancer cells with chromosome 3q amplification depend on PLD1 to secrete cancer-promoting materials via the Golgi apparatus. Targeting PLD1 in mice markedly slowed tumor growth without other health damage. Chromosome 3q amplification is also common in head and neck and esophageal cancers, suggesting the strategy may extend to those tumor types. DOI: 10.1073/pnas.2532484123
