A polysynaptic hypothalamuspelvic-ganglion circuit regulates prostate tumor growth via WNT3A
In brief
A mouse study shows that the PVN-DMV-MPG polysynaptic circuit regulates prostate tumor growth: PVN activity suppresses tumors while DMV activity promotes them. MPG ablation abolished the DMV-mediated pro-tumor effect. LMD combined with Smart-seq2 showed increased Wnt3a expression in activated MPG neurons innervating the tumor under upstream neural control, and neutralizing WNT3A released by MPG explants suppressed explant-induced cancer cell proliferation.
Why it matters
By comparing the opposing effects of PVN and DMV, with MPG ablation, LMD with Smart-seq2, and WNT3A neutralization, the brief maps a brain-derived pro-tumor mechanism.
