NEJM research week: tricuspid repair, MCED screening, sepsis fluids, optogenetic vision
A NEJM Group expert review covers studies from 8 October 2026. Transcatheter edge-to-edge repair plus medication beat medication alone in 360 patients with symptomatic severe tricuspid regurgitation on 1-year and 3-year composite endpoints; three rounds of MCED blood testing plus usual care did not reduce stage III/IV incidence of 12 preset cancers versus usual care alone in adults aged 50 to 77; restrictive fluids with early vasopressors matched high-volume fluids on 90-day days alive out of hospital in emergency septic shock; and optogenetic AAV therapy gave clinically meaningful light perception improvement in 6 of 10 blind retinitis pigmentosa patients.
Four practice-relevant NEJM trial results on valve intervention, cancer screening, sepsis care and vision restoration in one week.
