Medical Insurance Wallet 2.0 Launches as Cross-Provincial Personal Account Sharing Goes Nationwide

China's National Healthcare Security Administration has upgraded the medical insurance wallet to version 2.0, with cross-provincial sharing of personal account funds fully operational nationwide since October 16. The new version supports binding and use of sharing arrangements via the national medical insurance service app, Alipay mini-program and offline windows. Sharing is strictly limited to close relatives, and shared funds cannot be passed on again; use now extends beyond medical care and drug purchases to paying premiums for resident medical insurance and long-term care insurance. Over the past 5 years, within-province sharing has reached more than 780 million instances and over 100 billion yuan.
