Tsinghua Team Publishes in Nature on Mouse Embryo Models Built from Chemically Induced Totipotent-like Stem Cells
In brief
A Tsinghua University team led by Ding Sheng and Ma Tianhua published a study in Nature using chemically induced totipotent-like stem cells (ciTotiSCs) as the sole starting cell to model mouse morula, blastocyst, gastrulation and early organogenesis stages in vitro, and to form rhythmically beating cardiac tissue. According to the paper, the model recapitulates early developmental processes and provides a new in vitro tool for studying early embryonic development without fertilization.
Why it matters
A single chemically induced totipotent-like stem cell advances in vitro to gastrulation and forms rhythmically beating cardiac tissue, offering a new model for fertilization-independent early development research.
