Fluid Therapy in Mechanically Ventilated Critically Ill Adult Patients.
Fluid Therapy in Mechanically Ventilated Critically Ill Adult Patients.
In brief
In 206 ICUs across 41 countries, fluid therapy for mechanically ventilated adults was driven mainly by maintenance and replacement fluids (31.9%) and creep fluids (30.9%), not resuscitation (16.0%). Among 2454 patients, median daily fluid input peaked at 3.0 L on day 1 after intubation, with balance near-neutral by day 3. Isotonic balanced crystalloids (48.9%) and saline (27.0%) dominated, and substantial between-site variation persisted after case-mix adjustment.
