New study shows popular GLP-1 weight loss drug may slow biological aging
A high-traffic post on r/Ozempic reports a study suggesting GLP-1 weight-loss drugs "may slow biological aging," prompting many users to corroborate with their own experiences: u/simonsb says a twenty-year plantar wart, neck inflammation, sleep apnea, and other symptoms disappeared after taking the drug; u/octavianreddit, u/auntiemuskrat, and others also reported relief from back pain, sinusitis, eczema, and fibromyalgia. In the comments, u/VertGreenHeart cautions that weight loss itself may account for part of the improvement. On the facts: the study is indeed a genuine randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, published by a UC San Diego team in Nature Communications (2026, Corley et al.), enrolling 108 adults with HIV-associated fat accumulation; semaglutide showed slowed biological aging across multiple epigenetic clocks (including a 9% slowdown in DunedinPACE). However, it was a post hoc analysis, in an HIV-specific cohort, with only 32 weeks of follow-up; the authors explicitly state it is "not a reversal of aging," and extrapolating the conclusions to the general population and long-term effects still requires larger prospective trials.
