Immune changes could signal inflammatory bowel disease up to 10 years before diagnosis

In brief

A study presented at UEG Week 2026 analyzed 2,000 serum samples from 500 people and found that specific antibody patterns can be detected up to 10 years before an inflammatory bowel disease diagnosis. Antibody diversity in those who later developed the disease was significantly lower than in healthy controls.

Why it matters

Immune changes detectable years before inflammatory bowel disease diagnosis may enable earlier risk detection.
