Deep dive

By convention, an analysis should first lay out the evidence already established for this class, but the attached background literature contains no clinical trials related to local therapy, radiotherapy, or ctDNA in non-small cell lung cancer: what is available is only a nationwide SARS-CoV-2 seroepidemiological survey in Spain (61,075 participants) [1], an epidemiological study of acute renal failure covering 13 tertiary-care hospitals and 4.2 million people over 14 years of age in Madrid [2], a prospective monkeypox cohort from three sexual health clinics in Madrid and Barcelona [3], plus COVID-19 neurological case reports, a climate association analysis, and the International Society of Lymphology consensus [4][5][6]. In other words, the materials contain no Phase III or comparable pivotal trials to serve as a benchmark; all comparator data for SARON and the ctDNA strategy are undisclosed and must await formal presentations.

As for what is actually being reported at the congress, only two of these on-site posts carry scientific content. Radiation oncologist @cpeedell, en route to Madrid, listed SARON results among the abstracts he is watching at this congress (with Alicante noted beside the entry), without any figures; @gerryhanna documented an afternoon case discussion with Dr Yi-Chen Zhang, Dr Calvo de Juan, and Prof Yi-Long Wu on the role of local therapy in non-small cell lung cancer, in which ctDNA for selection and monitoring of patients was named as a novel approach, again without data. The remaining posts (arrival after 24 hours of travel, Booth 1091, check-ins, and media coverage of the ESMO 2026 opening) carry no readout information.

The step forward relative to existing knowledge must be assessed separately for these two threads. For the non-small cell lung cancer local therapy thread, the increment is that ctDNA for patient selection and monitoring was explicitly put on the table of a multi-expert case discussion, so the direction is now visible; for SARON, all that can be confirmed is that the results are being presented at this congress and entered the priority list of a radiation oncology watcher — how much they advance the field cannot be judged, as the posts contain neither figures nor a comparator baseline, pending confirmation.

The limitations are equally clear: these posts are dominated by arrival and social content, and the list even mixes in football fixtures and joke entries such as Onco-Karaoke, making them pre-congress atmosphere posts rather than data releases; endpoints, sample sizes, and efficacy and safety figures are all undisclosed, and the background literature is unrelated to the congress theme, allowing no cross-checking. This is a factual summary only and does not constitute investment advice.
