FDA Approves New Nonprescription Eye Drop for Relief of Eye Redness

In brief

The FDA approved Brytly, apraclonidine ophthalmic solution 0.125%, as the first nonprescription eye drop containing apraclonidine, for relief of eye redness due to minor irritations in adults and children 12 and older. The approval, granted to Alcon, limits use to no more than two times per day. It aligns with FDA priorities to expand access to affordable nonprescription medicines.

Why it matters

First nonprescription apraclonidine eye drop adds a consumer option in a category long served by older agents.
