Reducing nuclear damage improves heart function and survival in mice

In brief

A Cornell team publishing in Circulation Research used the DN KASH protein to disrupt the LINC complex, cutting nuclear damage in heart muscle cells of mice with LMNA dilated cardiomyopathy by more than half. Cardiac function returned close to normal, and survival extended from several weeks to over a year.

Why it matters

The study establishes nuclear rupture as a key pathogenic step in LMNA dilated cardiomyopathy and suggests LINC-complex disruption as a potential intervention.
