China Proposes Export Controls on Five Biopharmaceutical Technologies Including Cell and Gene Therapy
五项技术纳入出口管制,创新药出海要变天了?
China's Ministry of Commerce and Ministry of Science and Technology proposed revisions to the catalogue of technologies banned or restricted from export, opening a public consultation on October 16 with pre-export registration for the listed technologies. The revision covers 40 technologies across artificial intelligence, biopharmaceuticals and photovoltaics. Five biopharma technologies would be added: banned for export are original cell and gene therapy process platforms, small nucleic acid drug process platforms, and artificial genetic modification of pathogenic microorganisms with directed passage gain; restricted are new target discovery and validation technologies for cell and gene therapy and for small nucleic acid drugs.
Proposed Chinese export controls on cell therapy and small nucleic acid drug technologies could affect innovative drug deals abroad.
