Continuous Glucose Monitoring in Non-Insulin-Treated Type 2 Diabetes.
In brief
Continuous glucose monitoring lowered glycated hemoglobin more than routine care in adults with type 2 diabetes not using insulin, a 26-week trial at 22 US primary care practices found. Mean glycated hemoglobin fell from 8.8% to 7.2% with CGM versus 8.7% to 8.0% with routine care, an adjusted difference of -0.9 percentage points (P<0.001). Time in range (70 to 180 mg per deciliter) was 21 percentage points higher with CGM, with no severe hypoglycemia events.
Why it matters
It shows CGM benefits a large non-insulin-treated type 2 diabetes population managed in primary care.
